Crantock – Deep Retrofit & Renovation

Samuel Winn Design & Build was proud to take on the full renovation and deep retrofit of this period property in Crantock, Cornwall. The project presented a unique challenge: transforming an inefficient home—compounded by a poorly performing 1980s extension—into a high-performance, sustainable living space.

Our approach combined heritage sensitivity with cutting-edge construction techniques, ensuring the home not only retained its character but also met modern energy efficiency standards. A full thermal upgrade was at the heart of the project, dramatically improving insulation and airtightness while integrating a seamless, contemporary interior.

Internally, we carried out a complete modernisation, creating an open-plan ground floor that flows effortlessly into a striking sunken courtyard, and carrying this theme of light and modern tranquility through onto the 1st and 2nd floors. Every stage of the build was carefully managed to achieve outstanding performance metrics, including impressively low air-test values, thanks to the close collaboration between ourselves and architectural practice Studio Gather.
